Antonín Horák 100
20. 3. - 13. 5. 2018
This contribution is dedicated to the exhibition prepared by the Regional Gallery of Fine Arts in Zlín and CI.CZ, who worked extensively for the first time to process the experimentally based personality Antonín Horák´s artistic progression from photography to film. The aim was to present the creative and imaginative perspective of Horák (1918-2004), who, since the very beginning of his career as a photographer, had already become famous for his unbridled inventions. He was able to cross the boundaries of the common perception of the world around us. One part of the exhibition is devoted to the beginnings of trick photography films such as A Journey to the Beginning of Time (Cesta do pravěku), 1955 or The Deadly Invention – The Fabulous World of Jules Verne (Vynalez zkázy), 1958 whom he worked with Karel Zeman. He also worked with director Hermína Týrlová as a cameraman on such puppet animation films as The Revolt of the Toys (Vzpoura hraček), 1946, The Knot in the Handkerchief (Uzel na kapesníku), 1958 and Woolen Story (Vněná pohadka). These films are also a part of the exhibition. An important space was also the presentation of Horák´s own artistic creations during the 1960´s. At this time, he was able to create several exceptional short films that showcased his excellent art form and philosophical subtext. The final part of the exhibition focused on Horák´s unique “palaverer (outcast dreamer)” character, that also appeared in the literary world (Bohumil Hrabal).
