The Artists’ Association founded in the string of 1863 was the first national independent association for Czech artists. Its Art Department united a lot of important artists and theorists and in addition to the publication activity, lectures and monument care it initiated the individual members’ exhibitions as well as regular collective exhibitions. Some of them were organized in Zlín in the 30ies and 40ies of the last century and some selected exhibited works were bought by the Baťa’s Company for the collection which later became the basis of the today’s Regional Gallery. This direct relation between the Artists’ Association and Baťa’s Zlín has become the primal source of inspiration when arranging the exhibition From the Family Album organized by the Regional Gallery of Fine Arts in Zlín in cooperation with the Middle Bohemian Regional Gallery (GASK) at the occasion of the present 150th anniversary commemorating the association foundation. The exhibition consists of the collection pieces originating from both institutions and it presents selectively the work of most personalities who mutually influenced the characteristics of the Art Department of the Artists’ Association from the 20ies to the 40ies of the 20th century, i.e. in the period which is very important for the city of Zlín itself.
