Art Magazine Prostor Zlín

Prostor Zlín is a specialist art magazine with a history spanning more than thirty years. Published quarterly by the Regional Gallery of Fine Arts in Zlín, it is produced in collaboration with leading Czech and Slovak artists, curators and other professionals working in galleries and art institutions.

The magazine focuses primarily on the visual arts, with a longstanding emphasis on contemporary art and on the collecting and exhibition practices of art galleries. Modern architecture and design also feature prominently. Since 2004, the magazine has devoted considerable attention to Slovak visual art. Its regular Archive and Poetry section, which explores the connections between poetry, literature and the visual arts, is another integral part of its content.

Founded in 1993, Prostor Zlín has undergone several changes in format and graphic design, including an increase in its page count. Its content has also evolved, moving from predominantly informational texts towards longer scholarly, theoretical, analytical and critical articles. Initially published as a newspaper from 1993 to 1995, it adopted a magazine format in 1996. From its tenth year of publication, in 2003, Prostor Zlín has been published quarterly.

Guidelines for Authors

The magazine publishes scholarly articles, exhibition reviews and current information on modern and contemporary art. Manuscripts are accepted in Czech and Slovak and should be submitted as email attachments to ivan.bergmann@galeriezlin.cz.

Each annual volume has a set of broad themes for its individual issues. An ideal scholarly article is approximately 12 standard pages in length (one standard page equals 1,800 characters, including spaces), plus notes. Shorter and longer contributions are also welcome. Authors may submit up to ten images with each article.

Each contribution must include an abstract in Czech, no longer than 10% of the article's length. The editorial team will arrange for the abstract to be translated into English.

Authors are asked to follow the guidelines for formatting texts, notes and image captions.

Following consultation with members of the Editorial Board, the editors submit scholarly articles for peer review. The Editorial Board makes the final decision on whether a submission is accepted or rejected.
